![]() The beautiful Bronx-born, Puerto Rican actress, Jennifer Lopez , was born on July 24th, 1970 to a computer specialist and a kindergarten teacher. Jennifer had her heart set on showbiz from an early age. With talents like singing and dancing, she started to perform in stage musicals, dancing in a European tour of "Golden Musicals of Broadway", a Japanese tour of "Synchronicity" and local productions of "Oklahoma" and "Jesus Christ Supertar." Jennifer then landed a gig dancing as one of "The Fly Girls" on "In Living Color" and having Rosie Perez as a choreographer helped her land her next gig. It was on the CBS TV series "Second Chances." Although the series didn't last, it lead to her feature film debut "Mi Familia". Subsequently she gained ground in her next flick "The Money Train" with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Jennifer then won the role that would launch her into the public eye: playing Selena in the biopic tale of the same name (her dance and voice talent certainly helped). That same year, Ojani Noa (her boyfriend at the time) publicly proposed to Jennifer at the wrap party for "Selena". Their marriage lasted a year. Before long she was one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People and was fighting a giant killer snake in the surprise hit "Anaconda". A few more major roles followed with the modern noir flicks "Blood and Wine" and "U-Turn", which secured her star status. In 1998, Lopez proved that she could hold her own against a powerful leading man when she stared opposite George Clooney in "Out of Sight." Not only is Jennifer the only Latin actress in history to demand a $1 million salary, she has also released an album entitled "On the 6", which went platinum and has spawned such hits as "If You Had My Love" and "Waiting for Tonight". The album was so well received that one of it's singles bumped Ricky Martin form the top of the charts. Despite her ambition, talent, and hardwork, Lopez often receives more attention for two things. Her behind (which she has taken out a $300 million policy on), and her relationship with controversial rap impresario Sean "Puffy" Combs. Reports on Jennifer's love life increased after a night of clubbing with Combs. Lopez, Combs, a bodyguard, and a chauffeur were arrested after a high speed police chase in December of 1999. Shots had been fired in a Manhattan club the group had attended, and cops confiscated a loaded semiautomatic weapon from the car in which the foursome was traveling. After spending the night in jail, Lopez was free to go. Combs, however, still faces charges.
